Bailey Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Centrè is thrilled to announce the opening of our 3rd location in Missouri.  Dr. Colin Bailey is excited to bring his years of experience in treating Vein and Cosmetic conditions to the area.  

Dr. Bailey is a quadruple Board Certified Surgeon with nearly 20 years of surgical experience. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is one of only a few surgeons in the state of Missouri to have completed a highly competitive fellowship in cosmetic surgery. During his fellowship training Dr. Bailey was able to perform over 1100 cosmetic surgery operations. This exceptionally high volume, hands-on training experience far exceeds the typical 50 to 100 cosmetic surgical procedures commonly performed in most training programs.

Dr. Bailey is passionate about both cosmetic surgery and modern vein care. In building his practice, he has surrounded himself with a staff of nurses and technicians who love what they do and share a commitment to excellence in their work.

What Is the Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and a Mini Tuck?

A Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is a very common cosmetic procedure that provides the results that might otherwise be impossible for patients to achieve.  Although diet and exercise are key factors for good health, sometimes they are not enough to remedy the waistline issues that a patient is facing.  In these types of situations, a tummy tuck may be the solution.

During many patient consultations, the subject of Tummy Tucks vs Mini Tummy Tucks will arise.   Most often, a full Tummy Tuck procedure is necessary to achieve the results that a patient desires, however, in some cases a Mini Tummy Tuck will suffice.  To clarify the differences in the procedures and how to determine which is right for a patient, here is some basic information about each procedure.

TUMMY TUCK (ABDOMINOPLASTY)
Abdominoplasty helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. The procedure takes approximately two to five hours and can be performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with a sedative. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting.

MINI-TUCK
Partial abdominoplasty, or a mini tuck, is similar to the regular tummy tuck procedure, except it involves a shorter incision and focuses on tightening the skin below the . This procedure is ideal for patients who need just a little improvement in order to reach their desired results.

The TRUTH about Botox® Cosmetic

Botox® Cosmetic is one of the most popular and effective anti-aging treatments available, and yet, it is also one of the most misunderstood treatments.  Regardless of its popularity and, there are many myths regarding Botox® that drive good candidates away from experiencing the anti-aging effects.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is very successful in treating frown lines, crows feet and forehead furrows to give you a more relaxed and younger looking appearance. BOTOX® is injected at the site to weaken muscles that are causing lines and wrinkles.  Once these muscles have been treated, they relax and allow the skin to flatten.

Here are just a few myths that we have heard regarding BOTOX® and the truth from Dr. Colin Bailey.  

1. Botox will make my face look frozen - The truth is that when BOTOX® Cosmetic is properly administered the result should have a natural appearance and should not be obvious. The goal in most situations is to relax the muscles that create lines and wrinkles from repetitive musculature contraction.
2. Botox is only effective for 3 - 4 months - The fact is that when BOTOX® Cosmetic is used consistently for a year or two one can often increase the interval between treatments to 6 months or more. More importantly, consistent BOTOX® Cosmetic use is a powerful anti-aging treatment because the muscles that would normally make lines and wrinkles deeper have been relaxed. The result is a slowing of the aging process, especially around the eyes, the forehead and  between the brow.
3. Botox will make my skin looser with time if I use it consistently - This is just an Internet rumor.
4. Botox is useful for filling in wrinkles - Again BOTOX® Cosmetic works by relaxing specific muscles that create lines and wrinkles; it is not used to "fill" wrinkles.   When wrinkles are very deep and etched into the skin, we recommend using a filler such as Juvederm or a resurfacing treatment with carbon dioxide laser.

Endovenous Laser Therapy is Safe, Fast and Effective!!

Endovenous Laser Therapy, simply known as EVLT, is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat venous insufficiency as an alternative to painful stripping procedures. EVLT is fast, safe and effective. The procedure allows patients to resume normal activities almost immediately.

This minimally invasive procedure is one of the most advanced and the following is what patients can expect:

During the EVLT procedure, Dr. Bailey will identify the refluxing veins with an ultrasound device after your leg is prepared in a sterile fashion. A local anesthetic is used to minimize discomfort. A laser fiber is inserted through a small needle into the abnormal vein. Once the laser fiber is in perfect position the laser is turned on. The heat from the laser seals the vein closed as the fiber is withdrawn and the patient is left with only a small 1 millimeter puncture site. Blood is then automatically rerouted into the healthy veins where the valves work properly.

Finally, here is the "typical" recovery experience:

After the EVLT procedure, most patients experience mild tenderness and slight bruising. This is treated with Ibuprofen or other over the counter anti–inflammatory medicine. Patients return to work and normal activities the next day. Over the next several weeks patients can sometimes have a mild tingling sensation along the course of the vein.

Top 5 Breast Augmentation Myths Debunked by Dr. Bailey

Breast augmentation is now the #1 cosmetic surgical procedure in the world.  With growing popularity, myths and misconceptions will occur that may negatively effect your decision.  

Our goal at Bailey Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Centre' is to make sure that our patients are presented with the facts about cosmetic procedures.  We want our patients to have the opportunity to make informed decisions.

Here are 5 Common Breast Augmentation Myths debunked by Dr. Colin E. Bailey.

MYTH #1 - Breast implants need to be replaced every 10 years.  This is a common misconception that I hear every day.  We have seen many women that had implants placed thirty years ago - as long as the implants are soft and the woman is happy with the appearance, there is no reason to change.   However, our breast augmentation clients are told that they should mentally be prepared for additional surgery in the future.  With the passage of time they may need a lift or want to change the size or style of the implant.

MYTH #2 - If a silicone implant ruptures, the silicone will migrate to other parts of the body.  The new Cohesive Gel Implants can actually be cut in half with a pair of scissors and the silicone stays together.  The old silicone implants were actually liquid and migration was a problem.  In the early 1990s, these implants were removed from the market.  

MYTH #3 - Breast augmentation will raise the level of the nipple and areola.  This is another myth.  Breast augmentation can in some cases give the illusion of lifting the nipple/areola, but this is not a true lift.  The primary thing that determines the need for a lift is the relationship of the nipple to the fold underneath the breast.  When the nipple lies at the level of the fold or below, it is time to consider a surgical lift of the breast.

MYTH#4 - Botox can be used to lift the breasts.  This is a scam that has been propagated on the internet. There are no properly performed scientific studies showing that this is effective and physiologically trying to perform a breast lift with botox does not make sense.

MYTH #5 - Silicone implants may increase the risk of autoimmune disease or cancer.  In 1992, the FDA placed a moratorium on the use of silicone breasts implants for cosmetic augmentation in the United States.  Over the next several years they reviewed all of the studies on silicone breast augmentation and found no link to cancer or other diseases.  In 2006, the moratorium ended and the new Cohesive Gel Implants were approved for cosmetic breast augmentation.
